PTW Types

Postby Tackleberry on Fri Jul 30, 2010 11:12 pm

Okay, this is a subject that gets a bit fuzzy round the edges and usually ends up in confussion. So I'll attempt to make it as clear as I can:

GEN III is GEN III. Makes no difference if its regular or MAX.

GEN I's were made from 04 to 05.

GEN II's were made from 05 to 06.

GEN III's were made from 06 to end 07.

From 2008 onwards they are whats collectively known as sh*t............sorry......08's.

MAX models appeared in 06. From then on they are divided into two basic types. Regular (or toy version) and MAX.
The MAX had better quality plastics, steel fore sight, stainless steel buffer tube and a full set of steel planet gears in the gearbox to allow it to fire the red cylinder.

Other than that there were no differences. Same motor, same electronics.

This is how it is now. The only exception is the Super MAX which is identical to the MAX except for a different internal gearbox ratio.

Hope this makes it a bit clearer.

In your opinion, what was the best Systema released?

I could say the one they haven't made yet..............but that would be facetious....!

Some will tell you (and I may conceed to that too) that the last of the 07 GEN III MAX's were the best, but I believe the latest PTW with right tweeks is the far supperior model.

As good as the GEN III's were, they did or do suffer from fragile electronics. The 08> electronis package is far supperior in every way and more can be done to it.

Motors. All the 08 problems began and ended there.

Some of the QC on cylinders were lacking, as well as some internal components, mainly the hop-up adjuster.

Sorry, as usual I always manage to miss something out............. :o

Anyway, The Mil/LE PTW's are basically MAX's with blue grips.

Earlier versions (06/07) had stronger gears in the gearbox (same gear ratio as the other PTW's).

From 08 they were the same as the MAX but with the 490B motor.

From 09 the 490B motor was dropped (underpowered, lacked torque and failed just the same as the 490A) and they were fitted with the same 490A as all other PTW's.

Have you spoken to Systema regarding their awesome motors  and how they perform?
What about the hop-up issues?

Regarding the Mil/Le. Are the grips painted or molded with blue plastic?

Tac,

Whats the difference with the 08 and 09 electronics? Do the 09 models still have the 3 and 4 pin connectors or have they swapped to a 3 and 3?

Can you also confirm if the 09 gearbox sits slightly higher in the lower receiver. I spoke to a tech in America and he said that 08 cylinders in 09 gearbox's might need the slot opening up slightly because the large gear sits higher in the 09 gearbox.

good guide btw.

No difference at all. I assume you mean the EL-001 ?

08/09/10 models all use what is collectively known as the 08 Electronics pack (same for Super MAX).
The EL-001 has a three pin socket for the selector board (EL-002) and a 4 pin soket for connection to the EL-003.

Thats a lot of s**t and he clearly has no idea what he's talking about...!

All PTW's (and that is every model and year) the gearbox is in exactly the same place. As I've explained somewhere else on the forum, the only joker in the pack is the Super MAX.

The Super MAX's gearbox is in exactly the same place (no hight difference), what is different is the internal ratio of the gearbox.
This means the Super MAX's Spur Gear is larger.

Because the Spur Gear is larger it means that the recess in the cylinder needs to be deeper to allow for clearence. The Super MAX's Silver Steel Cylinder is milled for this clearence, but it means that to use any ather cylinder they must be milled or the spur gear comes into contact with the cylinder body and starts to chew it's way through.

So you can conclude from that that he dosen't know his MAX's.....!

Thanks.....!
