Low FPS after new Piston.

Postby Kaldras on Thu Mar 15, 2018 1:39 pm

Hey Guys,
this is my first Post and im kinda new into PTW´s and Systema.
I got it from my Brother as a Christmas Present.
Its a Used-Gun. We had to renew the Piston (Standard SHS PTW Red Piston) and build in a longer Tuning Barrel (PDI 6.01 374mm ).
Before we did the changes to the gun had 360-370 fps. After the new parts we only got 180 fps and the BB´s just went everywhere.
What can i check and do to get better Performance ?

Thanks for any help !

Is the fps jumping up and down?
Check your seals and on the Cylinder check the spring the nozzle connects to is good.
If you have access to a second otw try it's cylinder in yours to isolate the issue

What did you grease the cylinder with?
PTW's are extremely picky on what grease you use. The same greases that work in AEGs cause great inconsistency in a PTW.
I recommend systema cylinder grease, tamiya ceramic grease, or lonex teflon cylinder grease.

You also need to make sure it's compressing properly. Harder to do in a ptw than an AEG, but take the spring guide off the cylinder, move the piston to the back of the cylinder, plug the air nozzle, and push the piston forward as fast as you can. Ideally once it pressurizes, there should be no leakage at all.
Even if you're leaking up to around 5mm/s of piston movement while pushing hard, you should get pretty close to the spring rating for fps.
