Happened to me.
Used the rifle for the first time at a big 2 day game. It broke within the first minutes of the game. I was PISSED.
Now when I buy any Systema motor (even from someone that says tac worked on it) I'll send it to tac so he can look at it.

Does the super max motor have a lower failure rate?

I think tac likes the "supermax" motor LESS than the "490".

At the risk of repeating myself from lord knows how many other threads, there is no such thing as a Super MAX motor.

All PTW's use the same 490 motor (the TW5 is the same except for a shorter bearing housing).

As I've also explained, the only difference between the MAX and Super MAX is the internal gear ratio of the gearbox. Other than that they are identical.

After hearing how common these issues are I might just spend the extra $500 and buy from tackle and get a gun that won't break down in the middle of a skirmish. Once they have all these mods by Tackle how reliable are these guns?

OR would just sending the motor in yield the same results as I don't need the hop up mod, or moisture proofing.

I stand corrected, I just thought the Supermax had a motor capable of delivering more torque. Now I know it's all in the gearbox.

Yep. The Super MAX's gearbox has a higher internal gear ratio. This effectively increases the motors torque and means less effort is required to pull the bigger spring back.

However this does mean that when used with lower powered springs you effectively get a slower rate of fire.

Kind of makes the Super MAX totaly irrelevant unless you intend to use the M165 spring all day..........which is what it was designed for in the first place....!

Well, it's kind of a moot point after what Tony just said, but I've had both max and supermax and if I were to buy a new systema, I would totally by max, and not the supermax again. Less problems with old cylinders, I liked the max better with the blue spring and it used to be quite cheaper too.

Are the supermax cylinders silver?
Is Systema still producing them (Supermax guns)?
Are they only used for training? Because they would be worthless in a local game (shoot way too fast).

The Super MAX's cylinder is silver. Infact it as actually stainless steel rather than aluminium.

They were pretty much designed for the sole purpose of training to give as much range as possible in those enviroments.

The Super MAX is still a current production item...............as far as I know.
