Systema Which Gen to choose

Postby twmw2011 on Fri Mar 09, 2012 4:47 am

I'm new on this forum, and I'm seriously interested in getting a Systema ptw. I only have one problem, I'm kinda on a budget and buying a new max would leave me with no money to buy mags, rails, sights, ect. So as an alternative to the max I've been looking at a Gen III Systema. Its 300 us dollars cheaper and this way I could buy at least 6 mags and a rail system. I was thinking great this is going to be perfect. But then I went to my local airsoft store Airsoft Extreme in Santa Clara, California. I was talking to a tech there that told me that the Gen III's were prone to motor failure. Is this true and why. Could you guys help me come up with an alternative solution?

If you would have done some searching on these forums, you'd know that all PTW's are prone to motor failure. The 480's in the Gen III's are actually considered to be a small bit better than the newer 490's in the 2008-2011 guns.

Only way to fix the problem is a new motor or to get it rewound by Tac or another qualified tech.

I use a Gen III as my primary, don't feel bad buying one. Only issue is that if any of my electronics ever fail I'm forced to upgrade everything to the 2008+ standard since the older gen electronic components are harder to come by.

Gen 4 is the only model available as new, unless you find some rinky-dink dealer with a dust-covered box in his basement. Gen 3 stopped production over 4 years ago.

Gen 4 is where it's at.

Get a decent 2nd hand one, on a budget it's much better value for money, plus normally has all the mods done for you.

That's how I got my first PTW and it's still going strong 4 years on :)

I've been looking for a used PTW but the last three I've made offers on slipped through my fingers. Two were max's and the last was a supermax.
