softshells options?

Postby kaptainsam on Fri Feb 26, 2010 3:38 pm

hey guys, was wondering if any of you know of some good military softshells?

looking for something around the £100 price mark as i don't know how much use i'll be getting out of it, in the UK i assume it could be alot. was thinking something similar to the 5.11 sabre jacket. would love to justify shelling out for a TAD gear jacket but its just way over budget. any help in finding some more options preferably from UK based shops as it saves on messing around with shipping and what not.

cheers

a team mate of mine bought one a couple weeks ago and so far he's very impressed with it. I've only had a quick look at it but from what i've seen its made to a very high quality.. and from what i can see its completely waterproof.

its slightly thicker than other softshells i've seen but none the less its a decent quality :)

definitely worth a look then, recently came across a website called baseline supplies:

http://baselinesupplies.co.uk/index.php ... eeces.html

they sell what basically seems to shameless copies of the TAD-esque stuff under the label helikon (recently featured in the AI mag with there italian spec ops wannabe) was wondering if anybody had any comments about there gear, possibly looking at the tan level 5 jacket and or the patriot fleece.

Keep an eye on Ebay.com for the occasional good buy if its genuine your after. I've two TAD jackets, one was a bargain off this forum that would fall into your budget price.

Its the TAN colour that will limit your choice's, the likes of Berghaus, Karrimor all make soft shells but I have not seen them in tan.

It would be nice to see how good a quality the TAD copies are though, dosent matter how good TAD is there a bugger to get hold of even if you dont mind the price!!!
Take your hit bitch!!!

Or just ring the retailer and ask them - you never know they might give you an honest response ;)

BTW - I run and own Baselinesupplies ;)

Feel free to give me a ring anytime and I will be more than happy to discuss the kit on the site.

im going to be honest here, i have a tad raptor prolite, i love it to death, but a few weeks back i bought one of the condor/oetech jackets, and the quality is almost the same, in fact the only thing that associates the prolite as a superior jacket is that cost 4 times as much. i honestly wear the condor more because im less afraid of roughing that one up. :D

I picked up a Soft shell (PCU lvl 5 copy) off Balf at the start of Feb and got to say it does the job bang on, no wind chill at all :D. not managed to play out in the rain yet which is a surprise for the UK so can't commitment on the waterproof side of things as of yet. I picked up the heavy patriot fleece off him as well which for the price is cracking, it's roomy, has pockets where you want them and the elbow pads win wars. The jacket is also pretty damn warm and managed to keep me toastie whilst trekking around Snowdonia whist on holiday.

As for Balfs service great retailer, honest about stock levels and won't bulshit you about stock levels, prices or when items are likely back in stock
